With a very busy start to the new year, snow and ice abundant, the
winter did settle down to be a fairly quite one. By March
the ground was open and the thaw started nice and slow. We
had some of the usual soft spots and some new ones.
Spring came and the birth of the Town gravel pit became a reality.
Crushing 5,000 yards of bank run gravel and getting that down
on the roads took a good piece of the summer. Much rain slowed
down some of the summer's work progress, but in the end the crew
completed most of their summer work plan.
We welcomed in a new member of the crew this year. Adam Magee
came to us in June and quickly began his service to the Town. He
took the place of Brad Mayhew, who had been hired in 2008 and moved
out of the area earlier this year.
The fall season turned into an extended fall season with a warm
November. We were able to complete some of the work that the
rainy season had put on hold. The crew rebuilt one of our
class 4 wooden bridges and continued spreading the rest of the crushed
gravel. We also completed some of the culvert work on the
summer list.
Winter did arrive finally in December. The crew quickly remembered
the routes and kept our roads clear and safe.
Thanks to Foreman Stuart Grandfield, Road maintainer Rodney Jones
and Road maintainer Adam McGee.
Cheerfully,
Charlie Goodman
Road Commissioner, Waitsfield
