Waitsfield's fiscal year is January 1 to December 31. The town's budget is voted on at the Annual Town Meeting, which occurs on the first Tuesday in March. The budget is published in the Annual Town Report and mailed to each taxpayer's residence before Town Meeting. This requires the budget to be complete and ready for pubication by the end of January--only one month after the close of the previous fiscal year.

DECEMBER
Monday, Dec. 28 (regular meeting)
• Budget work session: Police program, Library, Assessor.

JANUARY
Monday, Jan. 4 (special meeting)
• Budget work session: Planning Commission, review of draft capital budget and program.

Thursday, Jan. 7- Public hearing notice (1 pg, 46 KB) published in the VR for the Jan. 25 hearing on the proposed capital improvement plan.

Monday, Jan. 11 (regular meeting)
• Joint meeting with Fayston Selectboard at the Fayston Town Office to review the annual Fire Department budget, the Joint Municipal Agreement for Fire Services, Winter Road Maintenance Agreement, and Library budget.
• Budget work session: Legal & Audit.
• Review draft Selectboard report.

Monday, Jan. 18 (special meeting)
• Budget work session: School, road dept., capital improvements, special articles, notes.
• Review draft Town Meeting warning.

Thursday, Jan. 21 - Last day to file petitions signed by at least 5% of registered voters with Town Clerk to have an item added to the Town Meeting Warning.

Monday, Jan. 25 (regular meeting)
• Capital Improvement Program public hearing.
• Final budget review.
• Finalize Town Meeting warning.

Monday, Jan. 25 - Last day to file with Town Clerk nomination petitions for town office positions to be voted on by Australian ballot.

Friday, Jan. 29 - Deadline to get 2009 Town Report materials to printer in Winooski

FEBRUARY
Sunday, Jan. 31 - Last day (at least 30 days before TM) to post Warning and Notice of Town Meeting.

Monday, Feb. 8 (regular meeting)

Saturday, Feb. 20 - Last day for municipality to post warning for public informational hearing on any public question to be voted on by Australian ballot.

Saturday, Feb. 20 - Last day (at least 10 days before TM) for Selectboard to mail or otherwise distribute the Town Report with the Town Meeting warning (in the event it is not published in the newspaper).

Monday, Feb. 22 (regular meeting)

Wednesday, Feb. 24 - Last day to be added to the voter checklist before Town Meeting.

Thursday, Feb. 25 - Last day for Town Meeting warning to be published in newspaper.

Monday, Mar. 1 (special meeting)
