Background
Mad Bikes of
Waitsfield was formed in 2008 by a group of citizens interested
creating a community bike program. They sought donated bicycles,
painted them a uniform color, provided bike racks and storage facilities,
provided repair services, and promoted their availability. By
being an entity of the Town, the program is covered under the Town's
liability insurance.
Goals
The goals of
the program are to boost citizens' health and wellness, benefit
local businesses, enhance public enjoyment of community assets,
reduce our collective carbon footprint, enhance community interaction,
and build collaboration with other social organizations through
the provision of bicycles in one or more locations in Waitsfield
Village and Irasville for use free of charge by citizens to get
from one location to another without need of a vehicle.
Steering
Committee
The Mad Bikes
Steering Committee consists of five members and two alternates,
all appointed for three years, except for the initial appointments,
which were staggered.
