    Description

Known as the Donahoe Road this road has very extensive documentation and was laid in 1873 and opened in 1874 (see CCGIS record 156).  It connected the Barnard Estate on what is now North Road (TH 3) to the farm of Francis Donahoe, who it appears had a farm in Waitsfield just over the town line with Moretown and even may have owned land on either side of the town lines.  Francis Donahoe’s actually dwelling house is shown on the Walling Atlas to be on the Moretown side of the line, though it should be noted, says town historian Richard Bisbee, that the Walling Atlas is notorious for inaccuracies and therefore may have, in fact, been on the Waitfield side.  Regardless, this road connected to Donahoe’s land on the Waitsfield side of the
line.  Most of this road was laid as a pent road except for the first 28 rods which were laid as a regular “open” road.

Because of its extensive documentation, this road should be fairly easy to locate today leading from a bend in North Road and most likely connecting with a road that extends from South Hill Road in Moretown over the town line into Waitsfield.  Thus when combined with Road ID 1, it could provide a loop from North Road to Floodwoods Road via South Hill Road in Moretown.
