    Description

A record form 1816, shows the survey of a road that left from Doud Bushnell’s dwelling (located using the Matt Jones historical map from 1908) north westerly “over the mountains” to a road leading to the Moretown line (presumably North Road (TH 3)).  The road length is calculated to be 2 miles and 285 rods or approximately just under 3 miles.  The survey record, unusually, does not mention the width of the road, though it might be assumed that the width might have been 3 or 4 rods as until that point the Town had only created roads of these widths.  The first record indicated a road less than three rods occurs in 1821 (see roads records index).

Though the road shows on no town maps indicating it may not have been used long, there is no discontinuance record or note for this survey.  Interestingly, the survey itself mentions that the road crossed over two brooks, went to the top of a mountain, and had one big bend or “nook”.

If the town conducts a survey of the road and determines that it really does connect Ronk Road (TH 16) with North Road (TH 3) and at some point crosses over a mountain top (most likely Mount Waitsfield) this road might make a nice hiking trail.
