The Town Treasurer plays a vital role in the management of the finances of the Town. The Town Treasurer's responsibilities include keeping the Town's financial accounts, investing Town money, keeping a record of the taxes voted and paying the bills when orders to do so are properly submitted. The Treasurer must work with the auditors to settle Town accounts prior to the annual meeting, and he or she is often called upon to provide the Selectboard with information about Town finances. he annual town meeting
On March 4, 2008, Waitsfield voters supported changing the Town Treasurer's term from one year to three years. On March 7, 2017, the position transformed from an elected to an appointed position from one to three years.
On March 5, 2013, Waitsfield voters supported changing the fiscal year from January - December to July 1 - June 30 (Article 11).

Property Tax Payments
FY2021 property tax due dates are Wednesday, September 16, 2020; Monday, November 16, 2020; Wednesday, February 17, 2021 and Monday, May 17, 2021. Taxes paid after those due dates will be subject to 1% interest per month for the first three months and 1.5% interest thereafter. Additionally, an 8% penalty on the entire unpaid tax will be charged the day after the final due date as stated on property tax bills.
Payments placed in the drop box at the front or rear of the Town Office after hours OR a clear U.S.P.S. postmark of the due date are acceptable.
